Atlético de Madrid return to work after their win at La Romareda

Asenjo began his post-operation rehabilitation

After the important victory achieved by Atlético de Madrid over Javier Aguirre’s Real Zaragoza, the ‘rojiblancos’ returned to work to begin to get ready for their upcoming ‘final’ against Sevilla. This coming Saturday, the side from Madrid will have another opportunity to continue climbing spots and back up their solid play at La Romareda.

After a day-and-a-half off, the Atlético de Madrid players returned to work with a late afternoon session at the Majadahonda Sports Complex facilities. During this training, Quique’s lads began their work with possession drills and then moved into a technical-tactical exercise with small goals, finishing drills, small-sided games, and then wrapped things up with aerobic work.

Striker Sergio Kun Agüero, who suffered a tough knock during the course of the match against Zaragoza, didn’t train with his teammates and completed alternative work which consisted of physical therapy treatment, work in the gym and then later on the pitch with physical trainer-physio Óscar Pitillas.

Brazilian midfielder Elías was absent from the first practice of the week as he is in his home country with permission from the Club to complete the relevant procedures for his work permit. Additionally, reserve squad players Pulido and Borja, who played in Atlético de Madrid B’s win on Sunday, didn’t train with the rest of the group and did alternative work.

Training along with the first squad members were Atienza, Hermosa and Roberto from Atlético B and Hueto from Atlético de Madrid A División de Honor.

The good news of the day was that goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo began his post-operational rehabilitation process at the Cemtro Clinic. The footballer, who thus begins the first stage of recovery, underwent physical therapy treatment, and will continue with this for approximately one month.
