Atlético de Madrid begin to work on Tuesday thinking about Almería

Three reserve players train with the first squad

This past Saturday’s win over Villarreal has returned the morale and confidence to the ‘rojiblancos’. It was a hard-fought and necessary victory for approaching the home stretch of the season in prime shape. After the well-deserved days off granted the players by Quique Sánchez Flores, the footballers returned to training at the facilities in Majadahonda on Tuesday morning, March 8, with their sights set on this coming Saturday’s clash against Almería at 6 pm.

It was a session in which the players remembered Adrián Escudero, the former Atleti player who passed away on Monday evening, as the flag that waves at the Majadahonda Sports Complex flew at half-mast in memory of the all-time leading goal-scorer in the history of Atlético de Madrid.

The players worked at full tilt for almost two hours. Taking part were all of the first squad members and three representatives from the reserves: Iago, Regalón and Noguera.

After starting the session in the gym, where they remained for 30 minutes, they took the pitch where Atlético de Madrid B play their matches. There, they joined the three goalkeepers, De Gea, Joel and Iago, who were already doing drills under the orders of goalkeeping coach Emilio Álvarez.

They began with physical work and then moved into ball possession games. When that exercise was concluded, they continued with a small-sided game with goals. After this, they completed an odd-numbered attacking drill with finishing and wrapped up the day’s work with a practice match on the half-pitch.
