Atlético de Madrid begin their preparation for the Cup derby against Real Madrid

Tiago and Perea train apart from the group

Atlético de Madrid returned to work after the painful loss suffered to Hércules and with their sights set on this Thursday’s Copa del Rey fixture against Real Madrid. The ‘rojiblancos’ want to vindicate themselves against their city neighbours and show that the slip-up against the side from Alicante was nothing more than an accident.

Tiago and Perea were the first squad members who did alternate work apart from the group. Both players are recovering from their respective injuries and worked out with the team physical trainer, Óscar Pitillas.

In this session the players who started the match against Hércules did regenerative work in the gym. Joining the first squad on the Majadahonda Sports Complex pitch were junior academy players Vitor, Miramón, Iago and Roberto. These players completed the training with the senior squad and helped them begin to get ready for Thursday’s match-up with Real Madrid.

The session, which lasted a little more than 90 minutes, began with physical work for a part of the team, while goalkeepers Joel and Iago did specific work with goalkeeping coach Emilio Álvarez.

Afterwards, the players did possession games, defending-attacking drills and then the practice concluded with a scrimmage on a small-sided field.
