Atleti and Valencia drew 2-2 at Mestalla on Friday in a game in which Champions League football was at stake, since only two points separated both teams. Llorente and Thomas scored our goals in a spectacular match.

Both sides tried to create problems for the opposition with limited success in the opening 15 minutes, which was when Llorente struck. The Spaniard scored following a play down the right flank to put us in the lead. We had a few other decent chances as the game progressed, but it was the hosts who converted a few minutes before half-time to equalise. Luckily, our team reacted in spectacular fashion as Thomas restored our lead right away through a sensational right-foot strike. It was the perfect way to conclude the first half.

Simeone made the first substitution shortly after the break, when Lodi – who had picked up a yellow card – made way for Vrsaljko. Unfortunately, Valencia equalised for the second time when Kondogbia somehow managed to connect with a cross and slide the ball into the back of the net. Morata and Carrasco came on for Arias and Koke in what were two very attacking-minded substitutions by Simeone, who was doing all he could to win the match. Both teams had chances to score the winner, but neither team managed to do so and earned one point each. Next up: Liverpool in the Champions League.
