MATCH RECAP

Atleti top off 2018 with a 1-0 win over Espanyol

Our team earned a 1-0 win on Saturday against Espanyol at the Wanda Metropolitano in the last game of the year.

Atleti closed 2018 with a 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday. Griezmann scored the only goal of the match, which was played at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Our team started the game with high intensity, applying high pressure and looking for the goal in the first few minutes. However, Espanyol also had a couple of good chances inside the first half an hour, but Oblak made great saves both times. The first was a nice chip from outside the box, and the second was a shot from inside. Griezmann also tried his luck a couple of times and proved to be an offensive threat when he was on the ball. Diego López was forced to make a couple of good saves to stop the Frenchman from scoring.

Despite the chances, neither team was able to able to get the goal, and the game went into half-time with a 0-0 draw. But the second half was different. We started off attacking and after ten minutes Griezmann converted a penalty to put us in the lead. The Frenchman struck it down the middle to beat Diego López. It was an important goal for us, and a few minutes later, Simeone decided to make the first change. Kalinic made way for Vitolo, with the Spaniard playing as a striker alongside Griezmann. 20 minutes before the end, Montero came on for Correa, and just over five minutes later, Simeone made the last change of the game, bringing on Gelson Martins for Thomas Partey.

After a few chances for both sides, our team managed to see through the game and get another three points before the Christmas break.
