Atleti held to a draw against Leganés

Our team drew 0-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday.

Atleti were held to a goalless home draw against Leganés on Sunday.

The Wanda Metropolitano received the visit of our former coach Javier Aguirre, who currently manages the south Madrid club. The Mexican received an ovation before kick-off. After kick-off, we saw two well-organised sides who struggled to heart the opposing defence. After a couple of saves from Oblak, Correa had the first good chance for our team some 25 minutes into the clash, but he struck over the crossbar. Morata then tried his luck following a good break and was on target, but this time Cuéllar denied the shot.

Simeone made an attacking-minded switch at half-time, bringing Vitolo on for Llorente. The Spaniard was close to scoring after just a few minutes when he sent through on goal, but the defence got there just in time to prevent us from taking the lead. However, Atleti struggled for a few minutes after that as Leganés took control of possession and posed a threat to Oblak’s goal. Simeone reacted by providing extra strength to the midfield, as Correa made way for Herrera. Our team began to attack and create problems for the visitors. We created a few chances as the second half progressed, and in the final minutes of the match Saponjic came on for Vrsaljko. In fact, the Serb had the chance to win the game in stoppage time, but he headed the ball over the crossbar and the game ended 0-0.
