MATCH PREVIEW | ATLÉTICO DE MADRID-LEGANÉS

Atleti gear up for first LaLiga derby of the year

Our team hosts Leganés on Sunday in LaLiga’s 21st matchday.

The Wanda Metropolitano hosts 2020’s first LaLiga derby as Atleti gears up to face Leganés on Sunday at 12 pm CET.

Our team arrive at matchday 21 in third place in the standings, having picked up 35 points so far. On the other hand, Leganés sit 19th with 14 points, although they’ve been steadily improving throughout the season.

Since our former coach Javier Aguirre took over, things have started to look up for Leganés. In fact, they haven’t lost away from home in almost two months, when they lost 1-0 at Sevilla on Dec. 1. However, they lost 3-0 in Getafe in their last league match, so they’ll try to get back to winning ways on Sunday. One of Leganés’ main threats this season is Martin Braithwaite, who has been involved in four of his team’s last five LaLiga goals – scoring three and setting up one.

Atleti won 1-0 the last two times we met with Sunday’s opponents: Saúl was the goalscorer last season at the Wanda Metropolitano, whereas Vitolo netted the winner at Butarque in the current edition of LaLiga.
