TENTH LEAGUE VICTORY, FIFTH AWAY FROM HOME

Another win on the road

Atletico Madrid won again to record the tenth victory in the League and maintaining the relentless pace at the top of the table. Diego Costa and David Villa put Atltico in to a two goal lead in anpther victory away from home.

GRANADA 1-2 ATLTICO MADRID

 A game that as Simeone pointed out in the press conference, would be marked by the intensity of both teams. The first chances came from set pieces. Koke with the deliveries for Atletico and Fran Rico for the home side looked dangerous for both sides.

The opening exchanges saw the top scorer in La Liga Diego Costa involved at both ends and came close to scoring in the 17th minute, but the Granada goalkeeper cleared it off of the line.


In the 37th minute, referee Gonzalez Gonzalez pointed to the spot after a foul on David Villa, who after bringing the ball down on his chest was flattened by Mainz. Diego Costa stepped up from the spot to beat Roberto and opened the scoring in Granada.


After the break, Atletico Madrid looked to slow the game down while Granada began to create chances as they searched for an equaliser but it was in the 56th minute that Diego Costa showed his power in a spectacular run from the left wing in which he leaving behind two defenders before releasing David Villa in the area.

Then in the 78th minute Villa this time was brought down in the area and the ref awarded the second penalty of the night. It was David vila himself who stepped up to take the spot kick, directing it past Roberto to score his third goal in two games.

With 10 minutes left to play it looked like Atleti had wrapped up the game but the sending off of Filipe Luis for a second yellow and a Ighalo goal in the 90th minute livened things up for a gran finale but good work from Courtois in goal ensured Atleti left with 3 more points in the league.
